About the Regatta
Founded in 2002
The annual SYH Classic Regatta is now firmly established in the UK classic yachting calendar as the largest event of its kind on the east coast.
Popular with local classic yachts, the regatta also attracts owners and crew from all over the UK looking to start their racing season ahead of the south coast sailing events.
The regatta has evolved into a three-day event comprising an optional early evening race (not part of the overall series) on the Friday, followed by a three-race series over Saturday and Sunday.
IRC points racing for fast, slow and Stella classes takes place in Dovercourt Bay, Harwich Harbour, and the Orwell and Stour estuaries.
Hosted by Haven Ports Yacht Club (HPYC), the regatta offers a varied social programme for those wishing to join the camaraderie ashore. HPYC is located in a renovated LV87 lightship in the centre of the SYH marina, in front of which the majority of regatta yachts are berthed to create a busy, social atmosphere. The lightship welcomes regatta entrants for drinks and food throughout the weekend and is the ideal spot to listen to the live music playing during Saturday afternoon and evening.
SYH has a long association with classic yachts, going right back to Stella designer and Kim Holman (one of SYH’s original founding directors). With workshops designed for classic yacht maintenance and refits, as well as the Classic Marine chandlery onsite, SYH is well-equipped to assist classic yacht owners in the lead up to, during and after the regatta.
