Taking place from 10th – 12th June, the popular Suffolk Yacht Harbour Classic Regatta celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Once again, classic motor boats are invited to join the regatta for a weekend of fun on the water and socialising ashore.
Alongside the sailing yacht racing programme there is plenty of activity to keep classic motor boat owners and guests entertained.
The motor boat fleet will primarily be berthed at the front of Haven Ports Yacht Club (HPYC) lightship, in amongst the sailing yachts, to add to the festival atmosphere and allow a shared appreciation of the variety of classic boats in the marina.
After gathering in front of HPYC on Saturday morning, the classic motor boat fleet will head out down the River Orwell to Dovercourt Bay to watch the yacht racing. The fleet will be split into two classes (planing and non-planing) ahead of the ‘parade of power’, which will see the boats take on a short course around the cans.
Following the parade of power, which will be captured by the regatta photography team, the fleet will head back to Harwich Ha’Penny Pier for refreshments. Once suitably refreshed, the boats will rejoin the sailing yachts to cruise back to Suffolk Yacht Harbour for the evening’s party.
Live music, drinks on the dock, wood-fired oven pizzas, and catering by HPYC will all be on offer to celebrate the regatta’s 20th anniversary in style.
Sunday is a relaxed affair with an optional cruise in local waters before the regatta prize giving at 4pm at Suffolk Yacht Harbour. In addition to last year’s Fairey Marine prize, there will be further trophies for the classic motor boats (details to follow).
