This year’s Classic Regatta will see changes to its onshore social scene for 2019. Live music and wood-fired oven pizzas will kick off the Saturday party atmosphere from 4pm onwards, find out more below…
On Friday 21stJune, the Lightship bar (run by Haven Ports Yacht Club) will be open as usual from 12pm – 11pm for drinks and food. Several regatta attendees and their families or friends congregate on the Friday evening and you would be most welcome to join this informal get-together.
On Saturday, breakfast will be served in the Harbour Room from 8am prior to the skippers’ briefing at 8.45am. Nothing better than a bacon sarnie to set you up for a day on the water!
A day’s racing will take place and yachts will make their way back into the harbour from approximately 4pm. We invite any yachts who would like to raft-up in front of the lightship to do so as this makes for a fun, sociable evening. SYH’s berthing team will be on-hand to assist where needed.
From 4pm, well-known local musician Peter Hepworth will be playing popular and contemporary music on the deck of the Lightship.
Opposite the Lightship, next to the Harbour Room, there will be a pop-up restaurant serving wood-fired oven pizzas to order from 4pm onwards. The Frog on The Dog Pizza company (www.frogdogpizza.co.uk) will be serving a selection of authentic Italian pizzas and salads made with Suffolk ingredients, fresh from the wood-fired oven in their converted horse box. No need to book a ticket, simply order when you are hungry!
The earlier start-time of the Saturday party will hopefully give more flexibility to those competitors either with young families or with commitments later in the evening. We welcome regatta entrants to invite friends and family to join what promises to be a relaxed evening of delicious food, good music and camaraderie.
The Lightship will be open from 12pm on Saturday for drinks as normal and will serve food from an extended menu from 7pm onwards. Again, there is no need to pre-book, just order at the bar. Also from 7pm, a live blues band will continue the party on the top deck of the Lightship.
Sunday morning will see breakfast served in the Harbour Room from 8am and the Lightship will be open from 12pm for drinks and food ahead of the prize-giving at 4pm.
